Publisher's Synopsis:
Before Audrey was the baker's wife, she was the pastor's wife.
Then a scandalous lie cost her husband a pastoral career. Now the two work side-by-side running a bakery, serving coffee and baking fresh bread. But the hurt still pulls Audrey.
Driving early one morning to the bakery, Audrey's care strikes something-or someone-at a fog-shrouded intersection. She finds a motor scooter belonging to a local teacher. Blood is everywhere, but there's no trace of a body.
Both the scooter and the blood belong to detective Jack Mansfield's wife, and he's certain that Audrey is behind Julie's disappearance.
But the car dead-ends and the detective spirals into madness. When he takes her family and some patrons hostage at the bakery, Audrey is left with a soul-damaged ex-con and a cynical teen to solve the mystery. And she'll never manage that unless she taps into something she would rather leave behind-her excruciating ability to feel other's pain.

I really enjoyed this book and finished it in one sitting. Audrey and her husband start a bakery business after being kicked out of the church for something that wasn't true. Audrey has a 'gift' that enables her to feel what other people are feeling. Not a very nice gift when it is pain and heartbreak. After she hits a scooter on the way to work one morning with her son, she gets more and more troubled by her feelings, which she thinks has to do with Julie, the woman who is missing. Julie's husband is convinced that Audrey and her family has kidnapped or murdered Julie and will stop at nothing to prove it. He is supposed to be an upstanding Christian, but fails to show it time and time again. So the race is on to find Julie, dead or alive. I Rated This Book: 4/5 Stars.
